At the Argana Baja community centre, Canary Islands president Fernando Clavijo called for an "own voice" in Madrid. Teodoro Sosa, who heads the list for Congress, promised to fight for housing, water, a secure electricity supply, the planned health campus (Ciudad Sanitaria), Puerto Naos, the airport and free ferries for La Graciosa residents.
Earlier, Clavijo accused the central government of "silence" and "neglect" over the rise in arrivals on the Atlantic route. He said Lanzarote and El Hierro are under heavy strain and that the regional government has asked three times, without reply, for the Security Board to be convened.
The PP also visited the island with a tough line on immigration, so everything suggests the campaign for the 29 November election will revolve around this issue.
